Biography
The Steel Creek Band has been around
for over 10 years. They are a local band from the Raleigh N.C.
area. The "Band" was formed originally by Chuck Curtis, Trey Martin,
Bill & Doug McDonald. The group has had a mellow sound with 3 part
harmonies. Much pride was taken with many original tunes penned by Bill &
Doug. The group uses Bluegrass roots and branches off into the Folk music
style as well. Many local musicians have been involved with the Steel Creek
image over the years, including Hank Bowman on the upright Bass, Jeff Aebi on
the Mandolin, Joe Martin on the Banjo, Keith Thomas and Clifton Preddy on the
fiddle. Most of these musicians were the core group, that for years made the
Hoffman Stringed Instrument Jam Session's the place to be on Thursday nights.
Present members:
Chuck Curtis hails from Cedar Rapids
Iowa. Chuck has a vocal background in Barber
Shop Quartet and Folk music. His strong lead vocal and harmony arraignments
have defined the Steel Creek Band sound for most of it's 10 year history. Chuck
also plays the Bass and writes real-time software for Nortel Networks DMS-10
division..
Trey Martin is from Zebulon N.C. Trey
comes from a musical family with a Rock and bluegrass background playing
keyboards with Palliden and guitar with C sharp & B natural. Trey is the
rhythm guitar player sings tenor and lead vocals Trey is a process
engineer with Athey Products.
Allen Mullen is from the
Raleigh area. Allen came from a Country Music/Rock
background. He has played with several bands over the years including Paradise and Windy Creek, but has now discovered a
true love of acoustic guitar. This interest was fueled by the great guitar
player Tony Rice. Allen now is the lead guitar player in the band and sings
tenor vocal. Allen is a electronics service engineer for Lanier.
Todd Pasley comes from Grassy Creek
N.C., a true mountain boy. Todd was a integral part of the Beard Brothers and
Sweet Dixie. Todd joined the Band last year after his
band moved out of the area. Todd plays mandolin and sings lead and bass vocals.
Todd is a software design engineer for IBM's internet division.
Bill McDonald is from the
Raleigh/Durham Area. Bill's background included Country and Rock lead guitar
but he never gave up his Bluegrass roots.
Bill comes from a musical family which included his grandfather, who taught him
how to flatpick and fingerpick the guitar. Bill passed this knowledge to his
younger brothers Doug and Mike. They formed a band called the McDonald Brothers
in the middle 70's. Bill was the fiddle player for the
Snow Valley Boys during the 80's. Bill is now the Banjo player, baritone vocal and
band leader for the Steel Creek Band. Bill is a software training instructor at
Nortel Networks Internet development division.
Steve Fraleigh, originally from
Ohio now makes his home in Raleigh. Steve is well known figure at Galax V.A.
. Steve plays several instruments but is best known for his excellent fiddle
work. He has played with Jeanette Williams and Clearwater until the birth of his newest daughter.
Steve adds beautiful fiddle to any project he plays on. Steve is on loan to
Steel Creek Band for a while. Steve is a ASICs hardware design engineer for
Erisson.
